Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, specifically, Mount Tamalpais & Mill Valley. Growing up, liked photography, but never got into it the way I would of liked and wound up dropping it. Went to college in Santa Cruz and wound up with a 20 year career in computers. QA, Sysadmin, Programming, mostly with Unix & Open Source, though had a four year stint doing computer antivirus work which of course dealt with Microsoft quite a bit. Also did a few jobs involving computer security analysis.
Most of the time was spent in the Bay Area, but moved up to Portland Oregon when the chance came up.
In the year 2000, my wife and I volunteered at House of Dreams, a no kill cat shelter. I setup their initial web page and took many cat pictures at the time. That’s when we heard about Best Friends Animal Society and thought of visiting, then in May 2005, my wife got a great opportunity as a tour guide at Best Friends, so we packed up our house and moved to a studio in Kanab, Utah.
I started working as a Cat Caregiver and soon got involved with adoptions in November 2005. Moved to full time cat adoptions in March 2007. In May, Adoptions became a separate department, combining Dog & Cat Adoption staff. I worked mainly with the cats during this time.
Nov 2, 2009 I left Best Friends and begun working on my photography fulltime. I’m still in Kanab and my wife is still doing a wonderful job as a tour guide. She is also writing a book on her experiences with reading to the cats at the sanctuary. I may be biased, but I find her to be a very good uplifting writer and I recommend her blogs, Readin’ with my Furries! which is currently being moved over to wordpress (slowly), but she also has a blog, When Left Was Naughty, about her experience with breast cancer.
